Step by Step to a Professional PU Coating
Inspection of the specific substrate properties: pressure and adhesive resistance, moisture level, or any damage.
Substrate preparation (shot-blasting, grinding, and vacuuming).

Depending on the system chosen and the specific requirements, several layers may need to be applied, e.g. standard-compliant sealing layer or an ESD layer.
A PU-coating mainly consists of polyoll and isocyanates which together form polyurethane polymers. Catalysts are added to expedite the chemical reaction between the main components and to control the curing process. Solvents control the viscosity of the coating and facilitate the application, whereby water-based systems can also be applied. Additives enhance specific features such as UV-stability, abrasion resistance, flexibility, and antimicrobial properties. Fillers and pigments are added to optimize the mechanical features and provide colour to the coating.
How long does it take to apply PU-coating?
Installing floor coating usually takes 3 to 12 days, depending on the type of coating and the respective project requirements. Careful planning and preparation can expedite the process and guarantee the procedure runs smoothly. The exact duration depends on various factors, such as the type of coating, the size of the area, the on-site conditions, and the specific requirements. To keep downtime at a minimum, we can work during production runs or production-free hours, i.e. at night or at weekends – a practical solution.
How much does a PU-coating cost?
The prices for professionally applied PU floors in a commercial or industrial area are between €15 and €500/m². The exact price depends on many different factors: the condition and preparation of the substrate, the sealing, the chemical, thermal, and mechanical requirements, the installation of drainage and concave fillets, working hours (e.g. night or weekend shifts), the standard-compliant design, cleanroom suitability, the desired certification as well as the warranty period and documentation. It is therefore not easy to quote a flat-rate price as costs vary depending on the project and requirements.
